Demolition industry can expect a market value of around 5 billion euros

Data detailing the national scenario as regards illegal building in Italy is rather discouraging. In the Campania Region alone, there are more than 70,000 unauthorized buildings.

According to ISTAT for 2014, out of 100 buildings authorised nationwide, as many as 17 others were built illegally – an increase of 15% compared to 2013. In just one year, municipal police forces have reported around 12,000 new cases of unauthorized buildings.

To cope with this situation, ANCI – the National Association of Italian Municipalities – has presented a bill (currently under consideration in Parliament) that seeks to define priority criteria for the demolition of illegal buildings, whereby individual local councils will play a key role in tackling this problem in an organic manner, starting from town planning and local area reorganization schemes, without overlooking a fuller understanding of operational and financial instruments.
